2014 UMN Family Medicine Residency Grads: By the Numbers

In 2014, 58 medical residents graduated from University of Minnesota family medicine residencies. An update on where those grads are practicing or pursuing additional training follows.

Practice/Training Locations

All residency grads from 2014 are currently practicing or pursuing additional training in the U.S.

  • 83% stayed in Minnesota
  • 10% went to other Midwestern states 
  • 7% went to Western states

Of the 50 states, residency grads from 2014 are practicing or training in 9 of them. States include Minnesota, Wisconsin, Missouri, Michigan, Kansas, California, Oregon, Montana, and Utah.

Types of Practice

Residency grads are practicing in a number of settings and caring for a variety of communities and patient populations.

  • 74% are working in private practice
  • 7% are working as hospitalists
  • 7% are working in emergency/urgent care settings
  • 5% are working in academic environments3% of which are at the University of Minnesota

Additional Training

Seven percent of 2014 residency grads were accepted into fellowship training programs in hospice and palliative medicine, neuromuscular medicine, and sports medicine.
